CataractCataract Removal

Cataract usually affects both men and women around the age of 65. Although without good UV protection, they are becoming problems earlier in life. Cataract eye surgery involves the removal of the natural, clouded lens of the eye and its subsequent replacement with a clear, artificial lens such as ReStor and ReZoom.   The cataract surgery procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis.

Dr. Senft is an expert in Cataract surgery with over 20,000 cases performed and offers several excellent choices of Intra Ocular Lenses (IOLs). An IOL is a replacement lens used to provide functionality of the lens being removed due to cataracts.

Dr. Senft offers the following multifocal lenses:

Dr. Senft also offers single incision Acrylic foldable lenses using flexible materials that fold the implant in half and insert through a smaller incision.

Glaucoma

Although there is no cure for glaucoma, treatment often can control it.  Dr. Senft uses medications to control intraocular pressure in newly diagnosed glaucoma.  When medical treatment or in office laser procedure is inadequate or inappropriate, glaucoma surgery may be required.

pterygiumPterygium Excision

A Pterygium is a wedge-shaped piece of abnormal tissue that grows out of the cornea.  Removal is typically recommended if the Pterygium grows far enough onto the cornea to impair vision, if it causes chronic inflammation and irritation, or if it interferes with contact lens wear.  Surgical removal of a Pterygium is an outpatient procedure that takes less than 30 minutes to perform.

Strabismus Surgery

In strabismus surgery, Dr. Senft makes a small incision in the tissue covering the eye to access muscles.  Certain muscles are repositioned during the surgery depending on the direction the eye is turning.  When strabismus surgery is performed on children, a general anesthetic is required and local anesthesia for adults.

Surgery

Laser therapy, drainage of styes, removal of pterygiums and eyelid lesions can be accomplished in the office.

Most other eye surgeries are outpatient procedures at a hospital or accredited surgical center. Cataract surgery with artificial lens implantation is currently done using an ultrasound system which dissolves the cataract without the need for a major invasive operation or stitches and no injections which enhances the safety profile.
